Over the past few weeks, we’ve been covering the ins and outs of optimization on YouTube. So far we’ve looked at Content Quality and last week started getting into the technical nitty-gritty with an overview on Keyword Optimization. Now it’s time to tackle one of the toughest roadblocks YouTubers face, video titles.
We’ve all been told not to judge a book by its cover, right? But let’s be real, an audience is going to look at a video title and make a judgement call. To click or not to click? Let’s help them pick the right answer shall we?
Get your Title on Target
To recap, video searchability comes down to ‘metadata’, or the group of text descriptors that go with your video content. You start uncovering these by figuring out keyword tags that will give you optimal results. This information is vital. Your title should then include 2-3 keywords. The more important information needs to go up front here, and your title should be as concise as possible. If your video is part of a series, make sure to add the number at the end. Your title also needs to be accurate and honest. This ensures you’ll pop up on the right results pages. As tempting as it may be to title your video with something that’s going to get tons of hits but has nothing to do with your video, this will create backlash on your channel in the long-run. So keep it honest everyone!
The Takeaway
Do: Keep your title fresh, fun, concise and clear and above all else SEARCHABLE
Don’t: Make your title misleading
