Clutter is everywhere in media these days. So much content is being rolled out, but where’s the quality? Just look at the music world, did you know there was a time when MTV actually played music videos instead of reality TV and talk shows hosted by face-pierced gossip spreaders. It was both an art form and a cultural phenomenon at the same time, similar to the way that YouTube is affecting the world right now. Over the years, however, the magic seems to have largely dissipated from the music videos topping the charts.
What Really Happened?
By and large, the music video scene has mutated into a publicity engine powered by shock value and battles-of-the-butts between J-Lo, Iggy Azalea, and Nicki Minaj. Marketers realized that art wasn’t getting enough bang for their bucks, so they stooped to the lowest common denominator. We’re not complaining necessarily, but where can we get our fix for the tearjerkers that took our breath away in the early nineties, holey jeans and all? Where’s the variety?
