Hi Ellinor and Macs! Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions!

For viewers who are not already familiar with your content, can you tell us a bit more about Ellimacs SFX Makeup?

Ellimacs SFX is all about creating cost efficient special effects with the makeup supplies you already have, along with stuff you can find around the house. We bring SFX makeup to the masses, with looks you can achieve without a big budget. Our makeup ideas are particularly ideal for cosplayer events, Halloween and independent movie projects.

How did you get started in makeup and photography? What was your inspiration for starting a channel?

Ellinor: I wanted to go to school doing craftwork and painting, but I couldn’t find one and thought that makeup was close enough! We recorded our first tutorial and then there was just no turning back for me!

Macs: I stumbled into professional photography back in 2002 when my pocket camera was lost during an afternoon at the beach. I had a planned trip to Paris the same week so I rushed off to buy a new pocket camera, but ended up getting a bad-ass (at the time) digital SLR camera. With my background as an art director I was thrilled with how the DSLR gave me complete control over all aspects of the photo creation. From there on my interest exploded and a year later I was shooting commercial campaigns, fashion, and artist promotion photography.

What has been the biggest change in your life since becoming a YouTuber?

Ellinor: My dream job is no longer my dream job, it’s my reality!

Macs: For me it’s been a great new way to express my creativity and ideas in the world of video and music production. It has also given me a newfound respect for the concept of workflows hehe. With every new video I challenge myself to improve on the quality of the production. Another change is getting the privilege of actually being able to touch and affect people’s lives. With every email, comment or piece of feedback it’s very clear that the message Ellimacs SFX puts out there is YOU CAN DO IT! It encourages people to use their imagination and start creating things they never thought they could do. That is such a spiritual reward.

Do you have a favourite ‘creature’ that you created? Why?

Ellinor: I would have to say our first baby, our Zombie tutorial. It as my first time doing sfx makeup, and I just fell in love with it right away. Also our Predator mask. Craftwork has been my passion since I was seven!

Macs: I actually love the Easy Halloween zombie makeup, the one that’s latex free. It looks so epic, even if it’s a fairly simple and straightforward makeup.

What’s the most challenging part about creating these insanely cool and scary SFX makeup tutorials?

Ellinor: Coming up with the new ideas at the same time as we constantly want to use new techniques and step up our game! But that’s also the best part, development! I’m doing things right now that I thought would be impossible when we started!

Macs: For me the most challenging thing right now is dealing with my extremely under-dimensioned computer haha. Definitely need a serious upgrade to handle the video compositing. Otherwise I’d say it’s keeping the studio clean after each shoot 😀

Where do you find inspiration for new ‘creatures’ and costumes?

Ellinor: Both Macs and I look for new makeup concepts and inspiration on the internet everyday! We constantly send each other pictures of cool stuff we find and try to combine lots of different ideas to create one epic look!

Macs: Since I’m born in the 70s I have a lot of classic 70s and 80s movies and culture to bring to the table. The current generation of makeup artists and YouTubers often overlook these gems. So we scoop them up! The Diana lizard from the V-series, Beetlejuice, and the upcoming Cone head tutorial are some of those.

Do you often like to go out in public after finishing your SFX makeup tutorials just to scare people?

Ellinor: Haha. That’s almost the best part! I, Elli, have scared so so many people. I accidentally ran into two girls late at night once with the “can in eye makeup”. I had been at a restaurant with Macs and totally forgot about the can. They screamed their lungs out, I screamed because they screamed and they just ran. Haha.

Macs: We are planning more prank videos, so hopefully we’ll have them online soon!

What do you want to say to the people watching your channel?

Ellinor: They are the reason we do this, their love and support inspire us to do more and to do better. They are Ellimacs and they are our everything!

Macs: I want to let them know that we have only just begun. There is so much epicness coming this fall and in 2016 so if you like SFX makeup and cosplay, make sure you keep your radar on us, or even better, subscribe 😉

But most importantly, if you think our tutorials look too hard to follow just remember – you can do it!

Finally in the spirit of Halloween, what are you going as this year?

Ellinor: I would LOVE to pull off a sexy female Predator warrior look using our DIY Predator mask this Halloween! Just picture that.. walking into the club like whadup I got a big..Haha!

Macs: Most boring answer, I haven’t decided yet. But I do have my eyes on our Predator mask 😉
