Leenda D is the alter-ego of Linda Dong, a Vancouver girl who has become an online sensation thanks to her hilariously honest comedy skits. Since starting her channel less than two years ago, Ms. Dong, a communications and design student, has amassed over 200 thousand subscribers and generated over 20 million views.
Inspiration in everyday struggles
Her videos have garnered praise for their humorous depictions of regular experiences, many inspired from her own life. She enlists her friends and even her two sisters to act out ridiculous scenarios we’ve all faced or thought about. Topics include Vancouver’s dating scene, the struggles of university students and stereotypes of girls from Vancouver neighbourhoods. She also covers commentary on her own Asian background, memorably, and hilariously parodying the ogling and pestering her mixed-ethnicity friends face with “what kind of sexy half-Asian are you?” In 2013, Dong won the award for Best Student Video Channel at the Vancouver Social Media Awards. It appears this rising comedienne is only just getting started, so stay tuned for big things ahead for Leenda!
