Break-ups can be hard. But sometimes, when things just aren’t working out, you just know it’s time to throw in the towel and go your separate ways. Well it looks like that time has come for YouTube and G+, with Google announcing that the two services are about to de-couple.
So what does this mean for you as a creator and/or viewer??
Soon, a Google account will be all you’ll need to create a YouTube channel, post comments, share content, build your own home, and pretty much everything in between! (Well the first three at least).
Users who have linked their Google+ accounts to YouTube will be able to remove their G+ profiles from the service in just a few short months. And starting today, the comments you make on YouTube will now appear there only, and not also on Google+ and vice versa.
For creators who liked the moderation options on their channels that came with G+ integration, like reviewing comments before they’re posted, blocking certain words, or auto-improving comments from certain fans, Google has made it clear that these services will remain. As well, Google has worked to improve the ranking system that reduces the visibility of junk comments.
If you want to remove your Google+ profile, you’ll be able to do this in the coming months, but do not do it now or you’ll delete your YouTube channel. (seriously!)
