On December 3rd, 2015, YouTube rolled out its new invitation for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) to all MCN-affiliated channels.
As a BBTV Partner, you may be wondering, ‘how does this affect me and my channel?’
The main thing to note is that nothing will change in the way your MCN partnership operates – you will continue to be eligible for current and future BBTV benefits, our support remains fully available, and we still payout out your revenue.
By signing the YPP, this will allow you to additionally access upcoming YPP benefits such as revenue sharing on eligible third-party content in your video, (e.g. cover songs or videos that use music). As a BBTV partner, we will communicate these benefits to you as they become available, and ensure you will be fully set up to use them. Note that acceptance of the YPP is a requirement for all MCN-affiliated channels in the countries that are eligible, so please accept the terms as soon as you’re ready to do so.
More information about eligibility and other questions are addressed in the FAQ below:
Q: In signing this agreement, am I still a part of BBTV?
A: Yes, you’re still part of the BroadbandTV Network. The terms you’ll sign affirms that.
Q: Why should I sign this agreement when I’m currently partnered with BBTV?
A: You’ll gain access to new YouTube features and revenue streams as they become available, while continuing to receive access to all BBTV partnership services and benefits you originally signed on for.
Q: Will I get paid directly by YouTube now, or will I continue to be paid via BBTV?
A: As a BBTV Partner, you’ll continue to be paid directly from us.
Q: How does the cover song revenue sharing work?
A: If you cover a song in one of your videos, and YouTube has worked out an agreement with the owner of that song (composition), when they claim your video, you’re able to share in its monetization with them. This functionality is coming in the future.
Q: What other revenue opportunities will YPP provide access to in the future?
A: YouTube is evaluating ways for you to monetize your videos even if they contain third-party music. Stay tuned for more information as we work with YouTube to bring this functionality to you.
Q: What are the requirements for eligibility to the YPP?
A: Your YouTube channel may be eligible for the YouTube Partner Program if it meets the following criteria:
- The program has launched in your country. Users in some countries may still need to apply through an application form. If the program isn’t available in your country, you’ll see a notification in your monetization settings.
- Your account is in good standing and hasn’t previously been disabled for monetization.
- You upload original, quality content that is advertiser-friendly.
- Your video content complies with YouTube’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
- You’ve reviewed YouTube’s copyright education materials. Get a quick video overview of copyright basics.
Q: How do I join the YPP?
A: There should be a notification in your Creator Studio Dashboard indicating that you’re all set to join the YPP. Clicking the button will take you to your (new) Monetization settings page, where a pop-up will let you review and accept the terms! Once you accept, you’re all set up!
We greatly value your partnership and we will continue to ensure you are kept in the loop as changes to YouTube arise.
