If you’re like us, you did a lot of YouTubing over the break, which means you’re probably caught up on your favourite channels. Itching to see what’s next? What if what’s next isn’t coming out for six months (or even six weeks?) Might your interest move elsewhere? This is an all too common issue we come across – where creators get some fire behind their channel only to see the buzz go up in smoke when they put a pause on uploading and can’t hold the audience’s interest. So simple, yet so so important! By keeping your channel active, you keep viewers interested. Be smart in how you handle this. Discover the right balance and release schedule for your audience and make use of the tools you have – i.e. playlists – to publish content to your subscribers’ guides and homepages.
To Succeed, You Need to….
- Upload frequently. Aim to publish a minimum of one video per week.
- Shoot lots of footage – it can be re-purposed in tons of creative ways for future uploads.
- Provide content during the off-season of regularly scheduled programming. Even if you’re taking a break from a regular series make sure you stay active with your audience.
- Stay timely – content thrives on topicality.
- If you’re going to be away from creating content, use other channel activity to stay engaged.
You can also publish content from other channels to your subscribers. Why would you want to promote someone else’s stuff you might be asking? Because highlighting other people’s videos can turn your channel into a taste-maker destination! People will come to see not only what you’re producing but what you’re looking at online. This is a great way to engage on off-upload days.
