What inspired you to become a book reviewer on YouTube?

I’ve always been a huge bookworm and books have always been my happy place. I spent a lot of time reading as a kid and even more as I’ve grown up and been able to spend most of my paycheck on books. I got into BookTubing when I realized that most of my friends didn’t have the faintest idea of who or what I was talking about when I’d call them after finishing a book.  After watching some well known BookTubers, I found that there’s actually people out there who will know exactly what I’m talking about, so I thought I’d try my hand at reviewing books myself. Honestly it just gives me an excuse to buy more books and spend more time reading than socializing. Not sorry!

If you could only read one book for the rest of time, which book would it be?

That’s a tough one because it’s a series! The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas is no doubt my all-time favourite series. Everything from the incredible characters to the world building just takes my breath away every time I read them. I don’t often re-read books but I could read this series for the rest of my life. Honestly, Maas could write the weather report and I’d read it ten times over.

What’s in store for your channel?

Thousands upon thousands of book reviews, book hauls, book tags etc. I’d love to one day be able to do some collaborations with other BookTubers from Australia and around the world. Apart from the BookTube work I do, I’ve also created the ‘Maximum Ride Webseries’, which is based on a series of books written by James Patterson. The series was what got me into reading as a ten year old, and in the last few years there had been a lot of chatter about a movie finally being made, and as an actor, Max was dream role. So I started creating short films by taking scenes in the books in hopes of being seen and getting to at least audition for the role. I noticed how much the fans loved the films and realised a lot of the reason I created them was for fans such as myself. I loved being able to bring characters I’d practically grown up with to life, and viewers seemed to enjoy that I did, so there will be more of those coming up. I’d also love to be able to branch out and create book trailers and other short films from book series that I love. Maybe even one day create the actual full length movie!

Piera Forde’s 5 Must Reads This Summer

1. The Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown

I did not expect to love this series as much as I did. It snuck up on me, sunk it’s fangs into my heart and has not let go. Brown creates an incredible story but it’s his characters that really got me. I don’t want to give too much away because this series is one you need to go into with a totally open mind and no prior knowledge. I held my breath for a lot of this series. It’s a sci-fi, fantasy young adult novel but no doubt anyone who reads this series will fall in love.

2. Half Wild/Half Bad by Sally Green

This series was a whirlwind of action, and very different to a lot of things I’ve read. The lead character isn’t your average ‘I’ve got to do good and save my people’ kind of guy. He’s the type of character who toes the line between being a hero and a villain very precariously and you end up either loving him or despising him.

3. The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J Maas

As I mentioned, I could read this series for the rest of my life and never get sick of it. The world building, the language, the action but most of all the characters will force their way into your heart and set up camp and never leave. Maas has an incredible way of writing badass, strong yet still incredibly vulnerable and passionate women and her men follow suit.  I can’t really put into words the way this series has effected me without sounding like a raving lunatic and typing for hours but this is definitely something you need to get in your life.

4. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor

There is SO much going on in this series that you get completely swept up by it all and once you’re finished, you feel like you’ve just gotten off a high speed roller coaster. This series was so far out of my comfort zone in terms of what I’m used to reading and what I like, but this series sits proudly on my favourites shelf. If you haven’t noticed, I’m big on characters, and yet again this series has some of the most well written, thoughtful characters I’ve met. Your villains, whom you hate with a strong, fiery passion to your protagonist and the side characters who warm your heart and you find yourself rooting for them to win and live happily ever after and pray Taylor doesn’t bring them harm.

5. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas

Maas is definitely my favourite author right now, she can do no wrong. Another incredible story full of hearty characters, this story is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, complete with magic, Fae and of course, an onslaught of sexy, brooding men. Maas gives us another female, complete with flaws and all, who struggles to understand her attraction to the bad guy, whilst also dealing with the fact that the Prince is stealing her heart.
