BBTV Creators listen up! Tag Spam, i.e. unnecessary and excessive tags in your video descriptions is against YouTube’s policy. We want all of you to make sure you keep this in mind when posting.
How-To Avoid Violating YouTube’s Policy
First off, don’t stuff your video descriptions with extra keywords. You might think that this will help you in YouTube’s search ranking – it won’t. Extra, unrelated tags will not only hurt your search ranking but it can also lead to YouTube issuing a strike against your account. YouTube has terminated channels – no matter how big – for violating this policy, and there’s been a number of suspensions issued for it.
Be Smart & Admit Your Mistakes
Let’s say you’ve perhaps engaged in over-tagging on your channel in the past. Even if you haven’t had any kind of suspension or warning it’s time to start removing those extra tags. Go back into your video descriptions and take them out – it’s better to be safe than sorry here! Old videos are actually just as prone to suspension as new ones, but if you follow through with cleaning out unnecessary tags now you should be fine.
