The unveiling of the YouTube app redesign has been divisive for users. Comment boards have been lighting up with harsh reactions to the new look, that reflects Google’s new “material design” aesthetic, ever since it was first released. With a boldly-red theme, the update includes integrated contextual menu buttons and a layered UI divided in 3 sections – Home, Subscriptions, and Account.
- The Home feed provides a list of recommended videos
- The Subscriptions tab allows users to browse content from their subscriptions
- The Account Tab offers access to the user’s own videos and video playlists, notifications, viewing history, and more!

Enough about the updated design, what really matters for creators is what’s inside the app: namely, video editing tools and a music feature!
Helping creators achieve a one-app film creation solution, users can now trim a video and add filters, on their mobile device! Choose from Sepia and 8mm, among others, or select the sketch option which transforms a video into the appearance of a pencil sketch!
The Music Feature allows users to add music from YouTube, or add music from their other devices. When choosing a song from YouTube’s library, you can select a song from the featured list of options or browse by genre and mood. Song clips can be previewed before being added to the video itself.
