Minecraft has been making a lot of news lately, with the studio behind the game possibly being sold to Microsoft in a deal worth a rumoured $2 billion. If the deal goes through, Microsoft will not only acquire the game, but also the millions of fans that have turned it into a global juggernaut. Since release in 2011, Minecraft has become the third bestselling game of all time and something of a cultural phenomenon. As we looked at earlier this week, Minecraft is a major player on YouTube, with videos here among the most popular in the gaming category.

Animators are getting a lot of inspiration out of this blocky pixelated world and are uploading unreal original content that has to be seen to be believed. One of the biggest trends is combining hit songs with references to the game. Well this week’s In The Limelight, MineworksAnimations, takes it to a whole new level with some of the most popular original songs, parodies, and even series taken from Minecraft visuals.

They have amassed over half a million subscribers and over 120 million video views on their channel and keep on growing. You’ll often find their stuff on best-of lists and after a quick browse through their content it’s easy to see why.
