We interviewed JayShockblast to tell us a little bit about him and what he’s looking forward to doing at PAX East 2017.

Jayshock 300x300 JayShockblast IS HEADING TO PAX EAST!For viewers who aren’t already familiar with your content, what is your channel all about? Tell us a bit about yourself.

My channel is JayShockblast and I’m all about gaming and pop culture. I’m willing to try just about anything on my channel, but I think I’ve become most known for LEGO games and anything comic book related. I also do all sorts of unboxing videos for collectibles like Funko POP! and Hot Toys figures.

How did you get started on YouTube? What was your inspiration for starting a channel?

When I was in college, I got heavily involved in the music industry as a concert photographer and journalist. After spending years following my favorite bands all over New England and being published in various magazines and websites, I latched on with a website called Analog Hype and started crossing over into gaming. Eventually I started my own website called Shockblast Media and used my Youtube video to post trailers and be able to keep track of how many views I was pulling. Then I started uploading my gameplay from Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the rest is history. I shifted from music to gaming and never looked back.

What has been the biggest change in your life since becoming a YouTuber?

I always think of the song “Rookie” by Boy Sets Fire and how the song opens with “I never thought this could be me, but I guess you never do until it’s happening to you.” It’s a crazy feeling to know your words can help someone have a better day. I don’t take that lightly. I love the shock people express when I reply to one of their messages and how comfortable people are sending me personal messages about how I have somehow helped them through hard times. It keeps me humble because it’s all so real.

What’s your favourite video (that you created)?

Other than personal videos of my last dog Tedy and current dog Thor, I’d have to say just about any video I’ve done with my brother where we are talking about different comic books and movies. I love having someone else in the video with me. I don’t do as much streaming as I would like, but I recently did one of the Injustice 2 beta playing nothing but Blue Beetle and it was easily the most fun I’ve had streaming. I’m so bad and I was actually winning and everyone was super into it. I loved it.

What do you want to say to the people watching your channel?

I just appreciate them so much. Thank you so much for the support and for helping me live the dream and to get ready for lots more awesomeness to come.

Is this your first time attending PAX?

No I think I’ve gone almost every year since 2010 when it was at the Hynes Convention Center. I remember seeing Bioshock 2 and Red Dead Redemption for the first time that year! I also went out to Seattle for PAX Prime in 2014 too. I love PAX. They are so great to work with and everyone is just there to have a good time.

What are you most looking forward to seeing/doing at PAX East?

I hope they have some more Injustice 2 and some Marvel vs Capcom Infinite! Maybe a character reveal? Injustice 2 already gave me Atrocitus, so I’m pretty good there. I’d love to see Nova find a way back into Marvel vs Capcom, but that is probably a pipe dream. I wouldn’t complain if there was a sneak peak of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Crackdown 3. Mostly I just love the experience. Just being there around so many people looking to have fun.
